Quartermain checked his expensive watch. It was time. He placed his watch in the rubble that once was Hiei's grave. A gentleman's gesture before a terrible deed.
Quartermain started emanating a guttural howl that ripped through the air. His roar echoed around the academy, his muscles trying to rip from his street clothes as the sun set below the horizon, painting the sky crimson.
He picked up pieces of the destroyed monument and threw them. Each one flew perfectly to its mark, shattering windows. A juvenile gesture, but one that was sure to attract attention.
Most student's fled from the scene of the raging, howling boy and his rampant destruction, some from plain fear, and some because they realised who was causing the mayhem. They would all tell the story of what was happening, adversaries were sure to arrive soon.

A peaceful evening indeed, one that came very rare to the Academy nowadys. Not the evening... But the peace. It was an enriching feeling to Hiei, to have the feeling of passing the day without even the slightest of problems. A harmonious group of sounds changed that feeling though, and turned it around. First, Hiei heard a whistling sound, as if the sound of something heavy falling and opened his eyes, his head turning to look up. What he saw was a large piece of rubble flying towards him. Reactively, he moved away, dropping his bag and a single book he was carrying. The piece of rubble passed over his head, giving him a glance of something that was carved onto it. 'Hiei'. Only one thing came to Hiei's mind. His grave. Rolling on the floor onto a kneeling position, he turned his head towards the hill at which his grave sat atop. And there he saw Quartermain throwing pieces of his grave at the Academy. Hiei knew that piece of stone tablet was good for nothing. Ignoring his own bag and book, he jumped to his feet and dashed towards Quartermain. Whatever respect the two had after fighting side by side, would have to be pushed aside now. It looked like the battle had started, and Hiei had already chosen his side.
He jerked his right arm out, a black flame engulfing his whole arm and burning of the sleeve of his black shirt. A plain black shirt, mind you. His cargo pants ruffled loudly as Hiei ran up the hill, his shoes making deep footprints on the muddy ground. First, Hiei had been the one causing major trouble. This time, it was the Triad. Let us see, though, if they would be able to succeed in what Hiei failed at. Hiei leapt in the air the moment Quartermain's hand let go of another piece of rubble and spun in the air, the back of his right ankle heading towards the back of Quartermain's head, hopefully pushing him away from his own grave tomb. Hiei had seen the thoring power of Quartermain when his 'pebble' had almost hit Hiei, and he wasn't at all curious as to find out how powerful in might in such close range.

Hiei's attack almost certainly would have hit Quartermain, but he forgot that Q's back was to the sun. In the split second that the attacker's shadow covered Q the large boy dove for the ground. Causing his adversary to fly over his head. He stood up eyeing the black flames carefully. Finally fight worth having. He activated his Alive on the smaller boy, for once Quartermain did not instantly start maiming himself. He would need his strength in reserves for this fight. No this was just a precaution against the power of the dark dragon. This would not be a fight of men or of their Alice's. This was destined to be a battle of the titans, equal parts strength, cunning, and ability needed to win. Quartermain pulled back to a typical street brawling stance and prepared for the first major offensive.

Hiei found himself still moving and his ankle not hurting at all. That only meant that he had missed his target. Hiei turned his head and finally pinpointed Quartermain's exact position and kept his eyes on him as he landed on the ground and continued his spin so that he faced Quartermain, his arm raised and ready for battle. He gritted his teeth. That miss wasn't just a miss. It was a miss that decided this battle. And now, Quartermain was aware of his presence. In fact, he may already had made a 'bond' in between them that would cause them to share their pains. Bad thing. The only thing that registered into his head now was to tire Quartermain out. The question was, how long could the larger guy was? The more important question, though, was, how long could HE last? Hiei had never been in a battle where stamina was how the battle was being decided. Well, guess there's a first time for everything.
He concentrated on his current opponent, waiting for him to make his first move. He jerked his other arm out, another flame englufing it and burning his sleeve off. The students down the hill had finally calmed down and were either running towards the dormitories, or watching the fight that was occuring right in front of them. After all, this didn't happen everyday.

Quartermain nodded curtly when Hiei engulphed his arm in flame. The boy was not foolish enough to skip straight to attacking, he realised that this was a battle of attrition. Quartermain spoke wihtout moving from his fighting stance, "I've never experimented with fatigue, I don't know if it transfers through my Alice or not. Let's find out." With this Quartermain charged Hiei, ready for anything.

"Yes. Let's."
Hiei replied as he too charged forward, a battle cry emerging from his throat. He kept his eyes on Quartermain, but lowered his head slightly to decrease air resistence so as to increase his speed. As he neared Quartermain, he lowered himself into a crouch. He placed his right fist by the side of his head. He then jumped upwards at Quartermain's chest, considering that he was taller than him, and threw his fist outwards. True, Hiei was more of a speed demon than a powerhouse, but the flames that fortified his arms increased the damage about to be inflicted by that simple punch.

Quartermain planned on drawing the fight out, he wasn't going to let Hiei score any hits if he could avoid it. Just before the boys collided Quartermain lept into the air, skying himself over Hiei. Unfortunately because of Hiei's punch was aimed high it struck Quartermain in the abdomen. The searing pain was not as bad as the first time he felt it, the dark dragon was not as powerfull this time. This however did not mean that it was not distracting. Quartermain's tumble did not complete succesfully, he landed on his right shoulder, hard,, scraping some skin off and bouncing twice. He stood ignoring the blood "Too slow." He didn't mention that he was chastising himself.

Hiei's torso suddenly jerked backwards as he punched at Quartermain, the force of his own punch pushing him back. Considering that he had bee on the ground when the first attack connected, he didn't fall on the ground but instead stumbled backwards. He regained his balance soon enough, but his body jerked once more as he felt a searing pain on his shoulder. His right hand immediately darted towards that shoulder, pressing on the wound to stop the bleeding. He looked at Quartermain as he commented on his attack. Hiei chuckled once, then got into his stance once more.
"Show me your speed, then."

Quartermain stood slowly, he took many actions slowly, that gave alot of people the notion that he thought slowly. Realistically his mind raced like lightening, especially when fighting.
"I don't have to be faster than you." He said reassuming his brutish fighting stance. "I just have to move when it counts."
He stood unnaturally still as a slight breaze flowed past he and Hiei.

Maybe he couldn't use his Alice on him. It would hurt too much for both parties. But that didn't mean he couldn't use it for other purposes. Keeping his eyes on Quartermain, he moved quickly. He reeled his right arm back, a fire ball forming over Hiei's palm. He then threw it at the ground, creating a small explosion that threw up the dust. True, the heat would have been felt by both parties, but that was nothing compared to what would have happened if the fireball hit Quartermain directly. Hiei charged into the dust smoke, aware that it had both advantages and disatvantages. He dived at where he had last seen Quartermain, sending a low punch at his stomach. Considering his height, the easiest place to attack was his stomach and his waist. His legs were a good choice too, but unless the attack was well-placed, it would be of no effect.

Quartermain felt the intense heat of the fireball, but it was only uncomfortable, not painful. What worried him was the distraction that it caused and the dust eminating from he ground. He could sense that his alice was no longer active and braced himself for the sound of attack. His opponent was to stealthy, however, and punched Quartermain powerfully in the stomach. The air rushed out of his lungs with a mighty grunt. Quartermain was only phased for a moment, however, being used to this kind of pain, and Hiei had made a major mistake. Diving straight for the large boys body gave him no maeuvarability option, and Quartermain knew exactly where he was. Q grabbed the elusive figure before him in a mighty bear hug. He slowly increased the pressure, squeazing harder and harder.
"I'm going to make you pop!"

Man. Too slow. Quartermain grabbed Hiei, but his mind wasn't on that, though. It was on what happened earlier. Why didn't he feel his own punch? Did that mean the link was broken by the smoke? That gave him an idea on how to counter his bearhug. Looking at Quartermain with squinted eyes as he talked, he flashed a grin, before letting out a grin as he lit his upper body in black fire. That would have hurt a lot to Quartermain, and also froce him to let go of the smaller fighter. Of course, this took a lot of energy out of the dark fighter, but it was better than being squeezed to defeat. He was going to win. Hiei had never been defeated before, and he wouldn't be defeated now.

Quartermain felt heat rise from Hiei's body, and before he knew it the fury of the dark dragon for the second time. When the flame engulfed Hiei's body Quartermain unceremoniously threw him, but not before he had been burned. Scorched remains of Quartermains shirt had fused with his skin, blisters were starting to form in many places, but he would still fight. The dust was beginning to clear and an outline of Hiei could be seen. Quartermain pushed himself to focus on the uncertain form, he puled a knife from his back pocket. Licking its blade he reveled in the warm taste of his blood flowing into his mouth, Hiei would be experiencing the same sensation. He then took the now wet blade and drew it across his chest, the pain was intensified by the blisters that he severed in its path. He held the knife before him waiting for another charge.
The whole time he was worried about taking many more applications of the blast, it could not be construed as enjoyable, even by Quartermain's standards. However he remembered Meredith's instructions "The Dark Dragon may control him just as much as he controls it." That was Q's real mission now. To experiment on his greatest foe, and draw out his demons.

Hiei flipped in mid-air, landing on one knee as he skidded backwards. His breathing pace was heavy, his right eye closed as he tried to regain his breathe. Man. Even though it had only been a while, Quartermain had manage to sqeeze the air out of him. He closed his eyes, lowering his head for a while, before standing up straight and looking at Quartermain in the eye. Of course, that meant he was letting him create a link, but that was the point. Little did he expect Quartermain to already make a move. He saw a glistle behind the smoke and suddenly felt searing pain on his chest. And then, he felt the familiar bitter taste of blood in his mouth. The next thing he knew, his tongue started to hurt. Gah, was Hime going to be angry at him after this. She was always worried everytime he got back to the dormitories injured.
"Let me handle him."
Hiei's eyes widened. That all to familiar voice that used to haunt him now returned. But he was supposed to have been defeated. "I wasn't defeated, Hiei. I was simply dormant. Resting." Hiei gritted his teeth. Great. Now he had to fight two opponents at the same time. One physically and another mentally. "Relax, Hiei. I'm not here to fight you. I'm here to help you. Just to let you know, I wasn't controlling you. Someone else was." Now that was frikin surprising. Still that explained those mysterious images he saw, and how the Dark Dragon's powers seemed to have been intensified. Also, he didn't remember his Alice being able to create ghastly illusions. Well, looks like he'd have to let him. "Fine. You win." He whispered. And then, he closed his eyes, freeing the Dark Dragon from his mental prison.
And then, a trail of fire emerged from behind Hiei and darted towards Quartermain, planning to hit him straight. Hiei's eyes widened. "WAIT!"

The tower of flame raced toward Quartermain at alarming speed. He attempted to leap out of the way but the fire clipped his legs incinerating a clean line across them. Quartermain's knife flew out of his hands and skided across the floor. He lost his connection with Hieie again, but thought he managed to keep it up long enough for the hit to be transferred. He thanked God he only recieved an indirect hit. It felt more powerful then normal. The Dragon must have appeared.
"Who do you want to wait, me or your counterpart. Bring it out Hiei, don't fight the dragon. If what Mredith's sources tell us is correct fighting it will jsut destroy us both."
Quartermain's eyes were wide and frantic. He did not know what summoning the true Dark Dragon would involve, but it might be necessary.
Quartermain started trying to regain focus while still on the ground, it was easier to incapacitate ones foe when your head was already inches from the ground.

Hiei fell on his knees, the feeling of flame causing his knees to buckle. Man, did that hurt! Hiei fell on his palsm, his eyes closed and his breathing heavy. "Hold on. He's almost down." But Hiei couldn't take it. He quickly concentrated, using whatever willpower he had to put the Dragon back in its cave. "In you go, DD. I can handle this myself. All I ask for is a little control of your flame." And then, there was silence. Thinking that DD had ignored his request, he looked up at Quartermain, taking in his advice. His very unwated advice. Hiei gritted his teeth. So, that was it, eh? Meredith thought that he wasn't able to control the Dark Dragon. Well, guess what, Meredith. It was hard, yes, but it was easier than before. Hiei forced himself up, staggering sideways to stop himself from falling. His arms hung limly by the side, his head hung low. He looked up at Quartermain, then took a step forward, but found that it was too much. He fell forward, but managed to catch himself before he could.
Suddenly, another trail of black flame emerged from behind Hiei. His eyes widened and reactively, he raised his hands towards the flame. Before it could dart towards Quartermain, Hiei threw it downwards in between the two fighters. The explosion was a big one, throwing dust, dirt and rock everywhere. Hiei was thrown backwards by the force of the explosion and he rolled a few feet down the hill, before coming to a stop. A trail of blood was already visible at the edge of his mouth, and his whole body was smoking. Hiei tried to open his eyes, and even that seemed too hard for him. Was this the downfall of the great warrior? I don't think so. He reached outwards, despite his exhaustion and grabbed a large rock, using it as a support as he forced himself to sit up, leaning against a nearby tree.

Quartermain achieved the connection he sought for moments before the explosion. He was blwon backward and had the unpleasent sensation of feeling the pressure of the blast doubled. The corner of his mouth opened and bled. Hiei must have gotten cut. He grabbed a nearby tree and lifed himself, his burned legs trying to give out and his blistered chest straining cruely.
"You can't controll it, Hiei!" Quartermain shouted between ragged breaths. "You can't fight it forever. You can;t beat me if you;re too busy fighting it." A racking cough hit him suddenly and he hacked up a large amount of blood. Spitting it to the ground he continued. "'m prepared to take the pain required to bring you down. Let it absorb you and you might have a chance. I can't defeat what makes that fire."
Quartermain had to force his speach out in gasps, he was buying time as much as he was threatening. He spun out from behind his tree looking for the other boy. Hiei was looking just as ragged, leaned against a different tree not far away. Quartermain half-heartedly threw a rock in that direction.
"Come on, tough guy, no ones dead yet."

Hiei closed his eyes, sitting there as he tried to regain the energy lost to him. This was turning into a very dangerous battle and only a handful of brave students were sitting by, watching the fight. Brave wasn't what Hiei would describe them, though. If they were brave, they would interfere with the battle. Yet, not one has come up to do so. He opened his eyes, but found that he could only open one. Thankful that he still could see, he looked at the direction of Quartermain's voice. His words registered into his head, and Hiei was very suspicious of his intention now. Why was the buffier guy telling him how to beat him? It just didn't make any sense, unless, of course, Quartermain wanted to be beaten. He closed his eyes once more, thinking of the consequences of letting the Dark Dragon control him. He feared a repeat of that incident, the incident that marked the first physical attack on the Academy. And then, Hime. What if Quartermain were to hurt Hime? After all, without Hiei, the school would have lost one of its strongest defenders.
He opened his eyes, then saw the rock coming towards him. Gritting his teeth, he quickly shifted his body so that he was kneeling down, and then jumped forward, his right fist covered in black flame as he reeled it backwards, then threw it forward, at the rock. He felt his skin touch the cold surface of the rock, then felt rock fragments raining on the rest of his body. A few seconds later, he fell onto the ground, staggering forward as he tried to regain his balance. He was too tired, too fatigue to even stand properly, but he wasn't gonna give up just yet. He needed to win. He needed to stand up. He needed to protect the Academy. He needed to protect Hime. He needed to win...He needed to kill.
He opened his eyes, the totally crimson orbs looking at the direction of Quartermain. Growling like one possessed, he charged forward, blood splurting out from the wounds on his legs as he pushed himself forward. Whatever Quartermain had been trying to achieve, had been done. Hiei had lost to his desire to win so much that he had been possessed by another demon. A very angry one. One that Hiei allowed to take over. Hiei jumped mid-way, his right hand still covered in flames as he dived down at the larger fighter. Letting out a loud battle cry, he threw his fist forward at Quartermain. This was a strong hit, maybe enough to break the tree behind Quartermain, whether or not it hit.

Hiei came too fast for the beleagered Q to dodge. The hit was more powerfull than the injured boy could have mustered, this was the dark dragon. Quartermain hit the ground blood draining from his mouth, he surely had few intact ribs and probably a ruptured lung. He fought to maintin conciousness while he gave a speech "Dark Dragon..." he spat forth more blood. "Your fight is not with me... we have the same goals... I will call you forward again someday... hopefully we will be allies that time."
With the last ounce of his strength Quatermain lifted hmself and steadied himself by grabbing Hiei's still flaming arm, he held fast as he stared deeply into the crimson orbs of hell. The pain was the onyl thing Quartermain could recognise, and it kept him alive. The fire scarred his arm, melting flesh into horrible shapes, blackening it beyon being recognisable as skin anymore. However the return of Q's old friend pain reinvigorated him. He let go and pointed at his foe's chest "And if you won't fight with me, we end this now!"
