Name: Shiara Arai
Age: 24
Nationality: Japanese
Hair color: Black
Eye Color: soft blue
Height: 4’ 11’’
Weight: 87 lbs
Appearance:
Her face is delicate and round, with large blue eyes and small lips with black hair that frames her face in front, and falls to the waist in back when loose, but is usually pulled back in a single braid or low ponytail. She has a slim, small figure, but the way she carries herself makes her seem taller than she is. A bit athletic, she does have enough muscle to back up martial arts techniques.
Alice: Prescience. [Predisposition type]
She can see the future, and be hit with a premonition at any point in time. This is both a strength and a weakness, since she can suddenly know what will happen in a few moments or a year from now, but depending on the strength of the premonition, she can be overcome by a vision and become lost in it until it’s over. One note is that she cannot see her own future, or see herself in the visions involving others.
Clothing:
She tends to wear combinations of colors in simple styles, such a long black pants with black shoes and a lighter shirt, or a deep violet skirt, black shoes, and a black top. She doesn’t wear the same thing everyday, but these are the basics with just some variations in color.
Personality:
Because of her height, she had to develop a fierce yet regal personality to demand the respect she deserves for her position. She will always stand proud and confident while keeping a mask of serenity on her features. Not easily angered, but that doesn’t mean to go out and try to anger her. With friends or co-workers, people who respect her, she can relax and become more openly friendly, though she still retains her pride. With students, she holds the attitude of a strong teacher, though as she becomes more familiar, she may show her more gentle side.
Background:
Shiara was the third child of a prosperous fisherman and a skilled weaver. She was the youngest, chasing after her two older brothers to play with her. Those two were more interested in sword-fighting and sailing though, so usually Shiara would stay home with her mother, learning first how to spin, and then how to sew. By that time, she was starting school with the customary nervousness of being in a new place. She was small even then, and wasn’t quite as strong or fast as the rest, but she had the wits to outsmart most of them, especially since she could almost guess what they were going to do before they did it. So she began her school years more or less peacefully. But then the dreams came.
There came a night when her dream was so vivid, it was hard to dismiss it as simply a figment; when she woke, it sudden, with full knowledge of what it had been. First she tried to shrug it off, and for a few weeks, it worked; she was convinced it had just been a dream and she was forgetting it when it her prediction came true. She was astonished to see the same situation played out before her as she’d watched several weeks ago, and she was almost forced to make the same motions as she had in the dream. Afraid, she skipped the rest of the school day, and just ran home to speak with her mother. She got the comfort, but not understanding, and the first rift, if small, came.
The dreams became more frequent, until they seemed to come every night, even though she couldn’t always remember them. But what was worse, was that they started coming during the day. Her friends couldn’t understand why she’d suddenly start staring out into nothing, looking like she was sleep-walking. She was just finishing fifth grade at that time, and was only ten. Her parents couldn’t understand what was going on, and her brothers either wanted to hide her to protect her, or just send her away to keep her nightmares from touching them. For though she saw peaceful prophecies, sometimes she’d see the death of a stranger, or the coming of a storm that would seriously damage homes and families, and she could do nothing to stop it. When she tried to explain, no one listened, so eventually she stopped, and tried to hold them to herself, able only to watch what she saw happen around her. Her family noticed her solitude and distance, and thought it best to send her to the one place where people might understand her: Alice Academy.
She began here in eighth grade when she was twelve as a quiet and reserved student who couldn’t trust anyone. Eventually she opened to some of the other students and some of the faculty when she realized that she wasn’t alone in her uniqueness. Even though she couldn’t ever quite control her Alice, it did become easier to bear, and she’d sometimes tell people’s fortunes using tarot cards. The years passed peacefully and she’d send some letters to her family on holidays. When she finally left the Academy, she found that she wanted to stay; it was a place where she’d been accepted as she was. But by their urging, she went to see her family for the first time in all those years. Things had certainly changed. Shiara was welcomed with smiles and good food. She stayed for a months, reforming bonds with her family that had fallen apart due to her Alice. While complete acceptance and understanding was hard, at least it wasn’t rejection. She weaved with her mother, and spoke with her brothers and father, warning them of the weather when she could. But her heart was still at the Academy. Shiara made the decision to travel back, and see if there were any positions for her, whether to teach, counsel, or simply be a care-taker of the enormous school. To her surprise, the position of a battle master was open, and she felt that would work well with her gift; being able to see a danger before it happened would let her keep the students safe as she played arbitrator. She accepted the post, and has been holding it ever since.
