Either standing on ground or at the edge of the world, the sky would always be present. What intrigues me now that, despite the successful operations the NASA and other agencies in exploring some of the world beyond, I wanted to go again through the sky itself. Yet not as how normal people would see it.
Alices are, of course, special abilities. Alice Academy is the place where children with these special abilities study. The entire world out there is separated from us. So why exclude the possiblity of an entirely new world in the Alice sky?
Opinions are opinions after all. No one is wrong. I climbed up a tree, raised my head up high, the scarf circling my neck and dying down to my long sleeved beige shirt over a short sleeved dark gray shirt. It was almost Christmas after all. The weather turned chilly.

Christmas is just around the corner. Yuki could already feel the Christmas spirit with the fact that his e-mail has been bombarded by messages from his sister Akane--he was born on the twenty-fifth of December, after all. He knew he should be happy; he actually is, one could tell from the smile plastered on his face.
But he couldn't help but think that something is missing. Perhaps it's the presence of Takara, he just wasn't sure. He's used to not seeing her after all, with all the school work currently given to the students. Plus the two of them aren't in the same class, and only God knows where his purple-headed sweetheart has ran off to now.
Oblivious of him, isn't it?
But this day, that obliviousness has not affected him, as he noticed a familiar figure as he passed by the North Woods to take a photo of trees for a homework given to him. On his neck hung his new DSLR sent to him by his oneechan weeks ago, aside from the comfortable yellow muffler that kept him warm. He also wore a navy blue jacket over his black and white-striped long sleeved shirt, which also added to his coziness against the rather cold weather. Meanwhile, khaki pants and a pair of black sneakers comprised his lower clothing.
As he aimed towards the sky with his camera, he noticed a familiar figure sitting alone on one of the tree branches.
"Xena-san?" Yuki called out, "Is that you?"

The thought of soaring entered my mind, and like an eagle I started to spread my arms. I was supposedly to jump and fall to my death, but a voice pierced through the trance. The voice, belonging to a male. I almost did fall, teetering front but the action was stopped by well, me.
I held on to the thick and strong branch I caught a hold of and steadied myself. Then I surveyed the ground below me, trying to locate the owner of the voice. He was easy to find, wearing a navy blue jacket that stood with emphasis from the ground.
I made a wave and replied, "Yap!" I rocked back and forth from my position on the thick branch. "Yukino, right?" I called out in response.

The boy lowered his camera and then let it just fall to his chest, meanwhile raising his hand over his eyes to protect them from the sun's bright light. Recognizing that it was indeed Xena, he shot back. "Yes, it's me!"
Thinking that the red-haired girl would want some company, the boy decided to climb up the tree as well, adjusting the camera holder so that the camera hung on his back in order not to scratch it or anything. Quite unusual for someone like Yuki to do such move, actually. He wasn't the kind who'd climb trees, he's more like the refined prince who'd rather sit on his throne all day, simply adoring nature from one spot instead of physically enjoying it. These past few months he has definitely grown a lot, although it's a fact that he himself doesn't realize it.
Yuki was able to settle himself on a branch adjacent to the one where Xena rested. At that he promptly pulled the camera holder and held his DSLR with the right hand, and with the other he held on to the trunk to prevent himself from falling. After having confirmed that his position was already stable, he raised his camera and took a shot. "I never imagined it would be this beautiful up here," he commented.
With a sweet smile etched on his face, the half British lad then leaned forward and turned to Xena. "I hope you don't mind if I join you. Anyway, how have you been, Xena-san?"

I spotted the camera that hung on Yukino's neck a beat after his reply. He then started to climb up the tree while I, on the other hand, entertained myself by admiring the view from my position. Ah. The sky during the season, maybe late fall, turned out to be a little more appealing to go through of. Shoot, I'm getting really into this newly found addiction.
It took me a while to notice Yukino staying on a nearby branch. Probably as thick as mine, maybe even thicker. But that didn't matter, as Yukino would possibly not fall considering his weight. From this close I could already see a thin frame.
The sky looks so awfully close.
"Of course I don't mind," I replied happily, grateful for the company. To his inquiry, however, my face cannot help but to reveal a small frown. "I..." Deciding on how happy he is, he possibly hadn't known about Takara Yuu's 'accident.' At this point I became relatively aware of the friendship bracelet on my right wrist. But if he had not heard of her death, would I have the guts to break it to him?
Nope.
I myself don't even have the courage to face the truth. I should help myself first, ha. The frown transformed to an in-my-own-world-gaze. My eyes concentrated to his own, attractive gray eyes. "I've been busy, being the new vice-president and all," I finally replied.
The sky looks so awfully close.
"How about you, Yukino?" I inquired back. It's normally the way to how a conversation goes. The sky looks so awfully close. A mutter from my own lips as I waited for Yukino to answer.

The air was somewhat heavy, for some reason. A smile quickly emerged from his lips, he had just thought of an idea. Taking advantage of the fact that Xena was facing to him, the boy pointed his camera to her and then clicked away; no flash was used in order not to startle the girl. When he lowered his camera he stuck his tongue out in a playful manner then made a V-sign with his fingers, chuckling softly as he did so. "Gotcha." As soon as his laughter subsided, he silently cleared his throat and then looked at the girl. "Oh, I've been busy too... but not as busy as you I reckon." For a moment Yuki was at a loss with what to talk about, but then he thought of something. Interestingly enough, it wasn't about Takara, the only person that connects the two of them... in a sense. "Well then, miss vice president," the boy started with a cheerful, sing-song tone, "How's the student council?" Well, that's another thing that connects the two of them. Yuki used to lead the same council last term, and he's curious about how they're doing now. Much crap. Gomen.

I hate stolen shots. I mostly come out of it blinking or frowning. Good for me though, for I think I captured a dreamy state in this one. I smiled when he chuckled, offering a V-sign as well. "Got me," I reacted pretty lamely.
My attention momentarily switched from the sky and turned itself fully to Yukino. "Well then, miss vice president," Yukino began with a cheerful tone and continued, "How's the student council?"
I slumped my shoulders heavily. "We're not even discussing yet," I spoke bitterly. "A Kurosagi Tatsuya isn't present, therefore we cannot start. The meeting keeps on postponing." I sighed, shaking my head slightly. "And I have good ideas for the Christmas events too!" I wailed, rocking back and forth.

Yuki let out a small laugh at the girl's answer. Even though Xena spoke in a bitter manner, basing from the tone of her voice the boy could conclude that she was having fun at the council. And that's a very nice thing to know too. "Oh, I'm sure you have a lot of neat ideas for this year's Christmas event," the lad commented with a good-natured grin on his lips.
"This time, it's Kurosagi-san, huh," he started, placing his right hand's thumb and index finger on his chin, once again letting the camera fall to his chest. "I remember the last time it was Shugo who was absent. And we were so angry too, but all's well that ends well, right?" Yes, those were good times; the times when he was able to discover that he's more than just a pretty face with nothing else to brag about. Who could've thought somebody like him would be able to lead the student body in one term without much problems? Perhaps he's lucky, but he's just thankful he made it through the term.

I grinned with a much more energy at his opinion. Well, of course I do. Saying that makes me too proud; I need some humility to stay on the ground. Although I want to go up to sky, doesn't mean I want to be a lesser value.
When a fraction increases its denominator, its value becomes less. So a fraction is just like me. "Yeeep," I agreed. Stretching words like rubber had been a recent favorite of mine.
"Eh, Yukino. Ever wanted to soar toward the sky?" I asked out of the blue.

"To the sky?" the boy repeated, turning his widened eyes towards the vast sky. Probably like any other person, Yuki would also love to soar towards the sky. The irony is, though blessed with the ability--or alice, rather--to fly, there isn't a single time that he himself soared towards the heavens. Every time that his alice would activate, he'd go into a state of semi-insanity, and when it would subside, he never remembers anything that happened to him during that time.
His eyelids fell down and his light gray iris downcast. His alice is but a bitter reminder of who he really is... even so, should this be a reason for him to be so gloomy?
No it's not, the lad answered himself in thought, turning towards the redhead with a huge grin on his face. Being emotional won't get me anywhere, anyway.
Swaying his legs to and fro, the boy finally replied to Xena's question. "Of course. How about you?"

"To the sky?" He echoed. I nodded and looked at him, noticing a slight discomfort on his face. What's wrong with him? Was it something I said? I was further wondering about the subject when he suddenly turned his once downcast eyes to me with a grin on his face. I waited for his answer, and of course it came, as Yukino was an obvious gentleman. Thoughtful and cheery as well.
"Of course. How about you?"
I clapped my hands together childishly. "Yuup yuup!" I replied energetically, finding that I was incredibly joyful that Yukino also like to soar toward the sky. Someone who I can tell my addiction about. "I noticed that somehow it has a different glow than where I came from," I continued. Thinking of the skies in the States where I lived as I did so. "I mean, not neccessarily a glow," I added, the smile on my face fading away as I pondered deeper about what I said. "Well, I could say it's different. In a good way." I finally decided.
"I wish I could fly."

Yuki replied to the redhead's enthusiastic reaction with a small chuckle. He could say that her energy is as brilliant as the color of her hair, and of course, that's a good thing. Hanging out with people like her bring out the best in him, and what's more, that kind of attitude is contagious. Girls like Xena make his days in the academy more fun.
Where she came from? Come to think of it, the name Xena doesn't seem to be a Japanese name. Of course Anael too, but his last name is Japanese so it doesn't seem so foreign. But Xena Zatkin... well, one thing's for sure, she didn't come anywhere from Asia. Although during his term as council president he could've accessed the girl's profile, he didn't. Or maybe he just forgot that he did.
"If you don't mind me asking," the boy started as he rubbed the back of his neck with a rather embarrassed expression on his face, "...where did you come from again?"
"I wish I could fly," the girl commented. Yuki wanted to say that he wanted to fly too, but that would probably seem like crazy talk to her since everybody knows he has angel alice. He decided to keep quiet and wait for the girl's response to his question.

"If you don't mind me asking... where did you come from again?" Ah. Questions. I love answering them. Except Math questions. I should really, really attend Math classes. Anyway. I turned my attention from Math class to where I came from. "Los Angeles, California," I replied back. Feeling the familiar words roll down my tongue once more. "Glendale."
I pointed to a direction in the sky. The one in front of me. Why wouldn't the direction be specified, you may ask, if it's in front of me? 'In front of me' doesn't really subsitute for 'North' nor 'South' nor the other directions. "That cloud looks like a bunny!" I declared. And it did look like a bunny, furry as it is, with one ear longer than the other.
Its eyes were glaring to our direction. "Where did you come from, Yukino?" I asked him, lowering my hand to my lap, continuing to gaze at the passing cloud.

The boy simply laughed at the girl's sudden reaction as he turned his head towards the direction Xena pointed her finger to. When he looked, he really didn't see the bunny. All he could see was a bunch of clouds, scattered across the vast blue sky, fluffy as ever. "Oh, how nice," he commented, trying to act as if he really saw what the girl saw.
Yuki then shifted his gaze to the girl when asked the same question he said. "Me? Well, I was born in England but eventually we moved to Hokkaido," he explained with a smile on his face. "It's really chilly there, especially this time of the year."

Moved to Hokkaido? I thought England was a fine place already. Why move? "Uh... Yukino," I began, starting to ponder whether or not I should continue on with what I was curious about, "if you don't mind me asking, why did you move to Hokkaido?" I faced the boy, away from the aimlessly travelling clouds, and leaned back on the branch that I sat on, before deciding to place a leg at the other side of the branch to inevitably see Yukino with a much more easier manner rather than having to tilt my head to the side.

He rested his palms against the branch where he sat, then looked up for a moment, as if trying to remember something. Yes, why did he move to Hokkaido in the first place? Actually, he'd forgotten already. But he had this hunch that his father had something to do with it. It always had to do something with him. He is the breadwinner (like all fathers are expected to be) of the Yukino household, and his mother would simply agree with whatever decision he makes, always supporting him with a smile on her face. And then she died, but then nothing really changed. Yukino Kenshin still had control.
Trying hard to remember why he and his family moved to Japan, Yuki squinted his eyes a bit. Okay, there's the fact that his father is Japanese, but that isn't the reason. The light-haired lad is sure his father isn't a native of Hokkaido and come to think of it, he never really knew from where exactly from Japan Kenshin hails.
Finally he remembered it, snapping his fingers as he did so.
"My father had work here. I think he's to work here for ten years or so, but yeah, we moved here because of Dad's work," the boy answered.
