[Yes, I'm posting it earlier. Thread date is December 25. Anyway it's open.] Like any other person, Yukino Anael loved the snowy season, and has grown accustomed to the cold. It would really be appropriate to call him a 'snow child,' having been born upon a snowy season; the twenty-fifth of December, to be exact. What's more, there are only a few times that he celebrated his birthday when it didn't snow, unusual as it is. White Christmases aren't exactly rare, but almost 14 years of celebrating the holidays as it snowed isn't exactly normal either. But there isn't much to celebrate. And this time, there is no White Christmas. Perhaps he really is a snow child; his sorrow affecting the fall of snow. Or maybe winter sadness is kicking in; the stereotype that people fall into a state of sadness during the chilly season. As much as he hoped that this feeling would go away, it just wouldn't. Everything that happened to him for the past weeks have really been hard. Nothing good came out of it, with the exception of his alice being dormant, though. Not even bothering to look for something else to wear, Yuki sat alone on one of the benches scattered around the academy dressed in his school uniform, holding his digital SLR with both hands, his face painted with sadness.

be no celebration this year: for neither Christmas, nor her birthday, nor New Years. Yes, the year was almost over... it seemed to have just flown by Mirany, passing her without a backward glance. Where had the time gone? It seemed as if just a few days ago, she had been at home, with her father and her brother, a happy family with no worries. But, alas, she was here at Alice Academy, with nothing to do but wander without direction; she would be, probably, lost within a matter of minutes. But she didn't care at the moment; the day was still young and she had nothing to do to waste it away. So what better way to pass the time than by doing nothing? It wasn't surprising to see that she was only one out on a cold day, Christmas nonetheless. What did surprise her, however, was when she did happen to stumble upon someone. She had been walking aimlessly, passing the many benches that had been strewn around campus, when she came across a boy seated on one of the aforementioned benches. Like her, he seemed sad, and Mirany didn't like seeing people sad. So, she approached him quietly -- hopefully, he wouldn't mind the company, since she wouldn't, either -- and paused a few feet away, hoping to make him feel better. So, without a greeting, an expression that showed worry for the boy on her face, she simply stated three words in her soft voice: "You look sad."

It's amazing how people can feel sympathy towards strangers. Perhaps it's children's nature (they are, after all, still kids) to be like this, because in reality, it's really hard to show emotions to people you have never met before. Of course, Yuki doesn't realize that. He simply is thankful that this girl had taken notice of him. But that doesn't exactly make him happy. At this moment, nothing seems to do so.
The half British lad looked at the girl for a moment, and noticed that like him, she didn't look too enthusiastic as well. He forced a faint smile onto his face, but it was covered with the long strands of light, almost whitish strands of hair that strayed to his rather androgynous face as the cold wind passed the two of the by. With the little energy that he had, he let the black camera sit on his lap and push the stray hair away from his face. A sigh then escaped from his lips. "You don't seem so happy either," the boy replied, taking his eyes off the girl and instead shifting it to the Maxxum 5D on his lap.
"It's kind of cold today... wouldn't you feel better if you were inside?" the boy inquired, moving a little bit so as the girl could sit beside him. True it was cold, and the prescribed school uniform isn't exactly the best winter wear. But then again, at least the girl had a scarf. He had nothing except for the camera holder that hung on his neck.

"You don't seem so happy either," he said, breaking their locked gazes to look at the camera in his lap; she, in turn, raised her head slightly to avert her gaze to the cold grey December sky above them. The sky seemed to carry on the mood of the two children by the bench: it was a dreary grey, the abundant clouds revealing the sun for only flashes of moments as they passed by.
As he made room for her, she sat down next to him, taking in his appearance. He was rather pretty for a boy... and if she hadn't heard him speak, she probably would have assumed him for a girl. Maybe, if the two became friends later on, she would apologize for that; she smiled wistfully at the thought -- it had been long since she had had any friends.
She broke out of her thoughts as he spoke again. "It's kind of cold today... wouldn't you feel better if you were inside?" he interrogated her, and she waited a moment before replying. "Yeah, it is cold..." she said quietly, averting her gaze to the grass beneath the bench on which they were seated; she continued: "But there's not much to do inside, so I figured I'd take a walk..." She allowed her voice to trail off before continuing. "What about you?"
Looking at the boy again, she could now see that he was in just his uniform, as was she, but he looked colder for she at least had a scarf to help her somewhat. Eyebrows furrowing from concern, she carefully pulled the scarf off her neck and laid it in her palms, arms outstretched, holding it toward him with a simple word: "Here." At the moment, he seemed to need it more than she did.

[Sorry for replying really late =__="] "Me?" he echoed, at the same time looking at the girl, actually not knowing what answer to give. At a cold day like this, people are most likely to stay inside and warm themselves up. But yes, why was he outside? "Practicing photography, I guess?" the boy then replied, raising his camera to make a point. As he sighed, a puff of cold breath escaped from his pale lips. For a moment he raised his head, directing his light gray eyes towards the heavens above. More or less his eyes had the same glow as the sky, if not gloomier. It was such a depressing day for a supposedly joyous occasion such as his birthday. But really, the least of his concerns right now is celebrating. As mentioned earlier, there really is nothing to celebrate about. Yuki then felt a slight nudge on his elbow, causing him to turn towards the girl as a reflex. She was reaching her scarf to him, causing the boy to blush momentarily. It was then followed by a goofy laugh and a polite refusal. "Thank you, but I think it would be better if you have it, miss," he said with a smile. "I'm Yuki, by the way," the half British introduced, extending his hand towards the girl.

[ Sorry for the much-delayed reply. @_@ ]
Ah, so he was a photographer. Mirany herself could never get into photography; she preferred drawing instead, maybe just because she had a natural affinity to it. She was looking towards him as he answered, but when he turned to look elsewhere, she did so, as well. Hazel eyes turned to the frostbitten land that was laid out so peacefully before them, probably rejoicing from the season's lack of snow. Or maybe not -- just because there was no snow didn't mean it wasn't cold enough for no snow.
And apparently, the boy wasn't cold, for he refused her scarf with a small laugh; either that, or he was just being polite, or both. "Thank you, but I think it would be better if you have it, miss," he said with a smile, and Mirany withdrew her hands on which the scarf had been laid, resigned. She placed it in her lap, stubborn enough to not want to be able to be any warmer than he was at the moment.
A moment passed, not without the bustling of the wind, however, and Mirany looked towards him as he held out his hand for her to shake, accompanied by an introduction. "I'm Yuki, by the way." So his name was Yuki. How fitting for the season, Mirany thought -- Yuki, meaning snow.
Realizing that he had been holding his hand out this whole time and that she hadn't placed her own within his for the customary greeting of a handshake, she quickly did so, hoping she hadn't offended him. Quietly, she stated her own name, a small smile finding its way onto her flustered face: "I'm Mirany."

"What a beautiful name. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Mirany," the lad commented. A small smile formed on his ashen lips as he saw the girl's face turn slightly pink, though it faded as soon as he returned his gaze towards the sky. Every word, every movement, every smile -- at the moment he views them as nothing but polite gestures, and all of his acts had lost their true meaning. He didn't even notice how Mirany chose not to wear her scarf, despite of the rather biting cold.
Inwardly he let out yet another empty sigh. Yuki's hands unconsciously raised the camera to eye level and pressed the shutter continuously but slowly. Silence pretty much filled the air, though it was somewhat broken by the clicking sounds the boy made. He only realized that he had been silent for too long when he felt his right index finger tire. Leaning against the back of the bench, he rested his DSLR on his lap once more, but his eyes were still fixed towards the clouds.
"I've never seen the sky this dim before," he said absentmindedly; his voice barely audible. Realizing what he just done, Yuki then blinked for a few times, then turned his face away from Mirany so that she wouldn't see his flushed cheeks. Not only was it rude to space out like that while he had a companion, he even acted in a way as if he didn't have a companion. He made one last click on the camera -- the one that would turn it off -- and then faced the girl, although not having the guts (or impudence, as he would put it) to look at Mirany in the eye.
"Sorry... about that," his voice trailed off.
