Katie again returned from helping her mother. The women had been getting better and then getting sick over and over. To be honest Katie was worried. Her mother lived in Georgia, in a small small town. Not one you will ever find on a map. Katie tended to her mother as best she could. Day after day she sat beside the bed and told her mother stories about the school and about Katie's love life. Katie really didn't have anything to say on the latter because she had not fallen into love with any one. Until one day when Katie was at the small shop in the town.
~Flash back~
Katie stepped into an old looking feed store. She wore her usual tight fitting clothes with her hair tied up. Going in the bell on the door rang and Katie smiled at the old lady who ran the shop.
"Dear dear Katie... How is your mother today?" "Oh she is doing a bit better Stella. Did you get any of the things I ordered in yet?" "Afraid not dearie. We should get them any day now though." "Well I thank you all the same. Its so weird being back here. Its so quaint compared to the school." "Yes yes... How is it being a teacher?"
Katie smiled. No one in the town knew about Alice. No one but her mother. They all believed that Katie left town to become a teacher for a private school and in truth... that was not all a lie.
"Oh it is wonderful. To be truthful I was promoted to principal of the elementry. Wonderful children all around." "Gets you to thinking about your own family one day doesn't it dearie?" "Oh Stella you are silly. No... I don't think I am ready for such a thing yet."
Their little conversation continued until the bell on the door rang again. Katie was sure it was another person from their small little town so she didn't bother looking up. As she walked down the feed stores small aisles she stopped to look at a few things. The person who had entered was behind her and she had no clue. She stepped back and bumped directly into the person. Katie turned to say she was sorry and the face of some one familure looked down at her. Roy Atenwood. Another teacher from Alice. What was he doing in her small little town? Katie had not the time to ask because the woman behind the counter had caught the shock in Katies face and mistook it for something else. The woman giggled like a school girl and Katie blushed as she hurridly paid for her items and left.
~End~
Since that meeting in the feed store Katie and Roy met several times after that. Katie learned that shortly after she had left Roy had been attacked by some people and had to get away from the school lest they try to go after the students. So it was chance that they be in the same town. Roy was hiding out and Katie was watching over her sick mother. Rumors spred in that little town that the man everyone saw Katie with was her boyfriend. That was in no way true... well... Not for several months it wasn't. Before they both decided to go back to the school Roy asked her to go out with him. Katie agreed and the two have been dating ever since.
Unfortunatly Katie wanted to keep it a secret when they returned to the school. Just for a little while, and that was why... right now... Katie stood by a lake in the North woods waiting patiently for Roy to show up.

"Hey, sorry I'm late."
*Flashback*
An alleyway in a small town in Georgia. One you would never find on a map. Almost as obscure as Roundup, Montana. He had come here to keep his students safe from attempts on his life, and now he was surrounded.
"You know too much. Your daddy wants ya dead."
"Four of you, one of me. Leave now and I'll let you live."
His parka, left open, revealed his red shirt underneath. His black jeans flapped in a sudden wind as his body glowed red. His voice warped, and sounded as if several people were speaking.
"Leave! Now! And you will not die in this place! I'm warning you!"
"W...what is he?"
Several minutes later, Roy walked into a nearby feed store, to see if they carried dog or cat food. He had been watching an old friend's house. He mused about what he would eat for dinner, as he quite litteraly bumped into someone he haddn't seen in months.
Miss K.
He raised an eyebrow, and was about to help her up, when she got up and hurridly paid for her goods and left.
"Awww......so cute. You look like her little Russian Soldier boy!"
"What?"
He turned red, hurridly found the dog food and cat food, paid, and left.
*End flashback.*
He and Miss. K soon started hanging out and talking a lot, and people kept mistaking him for her boyfriend.
It haddn't been anything like that, at first......but Roy had actually gotten up the courage to alk to a woman of his own volition. Soon after, He and Miss K were an item, of sorts. It was very suprising, to say the least.
Miss K.....or rather, Katie, wanted to keep things secret. For now, at least.
He brushed back his tousseled brown hair, and his parka, black gloves, black jeans, and black combat boots were in place.
He shivered.
"I'll never get used to the cold here....So......how was the trip back, for you? The students keep looking at me fnny, for some reason."

Katie hadn't heard Roy come up into the little clearing and jumped a bit when his voice sounded close. Katie turned around to look at him and shook her head with a smile.
"The trip was fine, perhaps the students are looking at you funny because you look like you just got out of the army."
She hugged him and kissed his lips softly before pulling away with a smile. She stepped back from him and walked over to the lake.
"I called my mother when I got back. Apparintly Stella has spread word about us all over the town. People have actually asked my mother when we will be comming back for a visit."
Katie would laugh a bit and shake her head.
"Is it me or is my entire town insane?"
As Katie sighed and looked at the lake. A leaf fell from the trees over head and hit the surface of the water causing small ripples. Katie shivered a bit and pulled her lab coat tighter around her.
"It is a bit chilly out here isn't it? Oh well..."
Katie turned to look at Roy and she smiled a bit. Strands of her hair had fallen from place and obscured her veiw. She pushed them away and walked back over to him. She leaned against him a bit and then wrapped her arms around him again. She enjoyed being with him. He seemed awkward at times but Katie wasn't bothered with it. She was sure at times she too seemed awkward.

"I'm just used to dressing like a soldier, I guess..."
He kissed her back, smiling shyly. He was twenty-eight, and still as bashful as ever.
He watched her walk over to the lake, and listened to her.
"Wait....everyone in town HATED me......"
He laughed slightly.
"Someone even called me a "Communist Pinko Ruskie"."
When she commented on the town being insane, he knew exactly what NOT to say, which meant it came out of his mout immediately, since he was, after all, Male.
"Kind of......"
He wrapped his arms around her, in turn. He always felt strange when he was with her. He couldn't stop smiling, and a smile was very rare for the man. He was always so akward around her, but that wasn't her fault. He had lied abut his age and entered the millitary early. He had not met a lot of women in his life.
He let out a content sigh, then laughed a bit.
"I'm suprised I'm not fired, I left so soon after I arrived, I don't even know what I'll be teaching...."

Katie raised a brow at his agreement about her hometown. She shook her head at him and smiled.
"It seems alot of people left... I suppose it is patialy my fault. I left and then every one else fallowed suit. I hope the school didn't plummet into utter chaos."
Katie worried about her students. Of all the times for Katie to think about school this was not one of them. Here she was, on a private meeting with Roy and she was worring about school. Katie shook her head and nuzzled her head into his chest. She closed her eyes for a moment.
"What should we do now. This place is so quiet. Its terrible when I can hear my self think and I don't want to hear my self think."
Katie said softly. She would like just one time for her brain to be quiet. Of course it wouldn't and Katie would think about her mother, about her students and about the duties that she left Cher to deal with. It was all a pain in her butt.

"Ah...I almost forgot...I brought you something."
He stepped back a bit, and pulled something out of his pocket. It was wrapped in plain brown leather. He unwrapped it, and it was a pendant, solid gold with a large ruby in the middle. He placed it around her neck, and smiled, wrapping his arms around her, and kissing her softly. He was still feeling that strange warmth, and this only made it burn brighter. His smile widened a bit, as a lock of hair fell over his left eye.
"That was my blood-mother's. Too many memories. I want you to have it."
He shifted a bit, and brushed his hair out of his eyes.
He truly enjoyed the strange, warm feeling. Whatever it really was.

Katie blinked when he pulled out the little brown leather covered object. He put it around her neck and her pale hand would gently touch it. The ruby, the entire necklace... It was beautiful. Katie blushed as he pulled her close to him and she smiled. For once her brain shut up. In stead of thinking about everyone and everything it just focused on Roy and her. Katie usualy didn't feel so shy around men. It was just something that had been happening when she was around Roy. So when Katie got up the urge to kiss Roy this time... It wasn't the usual little peck on the cheek or lips.
Katie pressed her lips against his and wrapped her arms tightly around him as she kissed him deeply. What had brought this on she didn't know... but ... it felt right so she didn't stop. This rush of emotions caused the air around them to pick up and Katie pulled away to hold down her lab coat. She turned bright red and looked away. The air calmed and once again... There was quiet. Katie had trouble thinking and the one time she needed her brain to work it seemed to have stoped.

When she kissed him, he wrapped his arms tight around her and returned the kiss. He, too, was experiencing a rush of emotion. Confusion, happyness, and some, unknown feeling. He liked the unknown feeling the most, as it made him forget the cold. It made him forget everything but Katie. The feel of her lips on his, of being with her. THey broke the kiss when the wind picked up, and stepped away from each other. Her "Alice" had activated, due to the rush of emotion.
So had Roy's.
This time, Roy was glowing blue instead of red, and his voice sounded normal.
"Umm....wow...."
It seemed they were both having some kind of reaction to the rush of emotion. Thte blue glow faded for a moment, came back stronger, then went away completely.
"Hey...come on...I'm, supposed to be the shy one...", he said, and wrapped his arms around her.

Katie hadn't noticed his Alice acting up she was busy cursing her own for acting up. Then the familure feel of his arms around her again made her blush even more. Katie smiled up at him when he commented about her being shy.
"W-well thats not fair. If you get to be shy all the time what do I get to be?"
Katie said with a little fake pout. She rested her head against his shoulder and again forgot about everything. Though she made a mental note to scold her powers later in the privacy of her own home. Her arms wrapped around his waist and she sighed softly, but contentedly. The coldness of the day seemed to vanish, and again the two just enjoyed being close to one another. Katie decided they had to do something other then just stand around hugging on one another. Her arms would unwrap from around him and she would smile. Perhaps a game of "catch me if you can" would be fun.
Katie would kiss Roy softly before pulling away slowly. Then... with out much of a warning she would take off into the woods with a smirk on her face.
"Catch me if you can Roy!"
She called out to him. She found a tree a little ways away and hurridly climbed it.

She gave a cute fake pout and asked what she got to be if he was the shy one, and then she bolted.
"H-hey! No fair!"
Roy laughed a bit, and jogged after her. It would be no fun at all if he caught her immidiately. He jumped up into the tree limbs and followed her, just above and behind her. When she climbed the tree, he laughed, and hid just above her.
When she was within a few inches of him, he let out a small "Boo!"
Sometimes his millitary training proved useful.
He sat on the limb next to her, and laughed softly.

"EEK!"
Katie jumped slightly as Roy said boo and scared her. Then she laughed and looked over at him sitting beside her. In Georgia when Katie's mother had bouts of extream illness and Katie was worried... She went to Roy. He would listen and tell her that things were fine. Though she was sure he really didn't know it felt good to hear some one say something other then "Oh thats too bad."
Katie had grown accustomed to visiting Roy even when her mother wasn't ill. For any reason at all she would go to see him. Her mother claimed that it was because she liked him, and Katie would just laugh it off... but now... she saw her mother was telling the truth. Because as Katie sat there looking at Roy, She realised...She might have deeper feelings for him. Katie wouldn't say a word about it though. Instead she would scoot closer to him and place a kiss on his cheek then wrap his arm around her shoulder and smile.

"This is.....nice."
What was this feeling? The name was on the tip of his tounge, but he just couldn't remember. He knew what it was, but the name of it....escaped him just slightly.
"So, I take it you like the amulet?"
He laughed softly, wrapping an arm around her. Her warmth spread into his, and the cold wasn't so peircing anymore. He let her lean on him, and let out a content sigh. He absent-mindedly wondered what he was supposed to teach, and how much the other staff would be pissed at him.
"Are the other teachers angry at me for my absence? I still can't belive I still have a job...."

"Oh that is stupid. They aren't mad at you. I am a principal for goodness sakes and I left my post. Everything is fine..."
Katie said softly. The pale hand of Katie reached up and pushed away a few stray strands of hair. The weather manipulater bit down on her lower lip and she looked over at Roy.
"Hey... Uhm Roy... We should go on a date... like... A real one. In the city. I know I wanted to keep this quiet but... Perhaps its a bit too quiet. We should go out tonight."
Katie smiled thinking about it. It might feel better for both of them if they just didn't worry about what every one else thought. Perhaps she would stop being so shy around him. Katie pushed her self off the tree branch and a large gust of wind caught her and made her landing easier. She smiled up at him and waved him down.
"Common. Its no fun if I go for a walk on my own."

Roy's landing wasn't so soft. He landed in a crouch, fallen leaves stirring up around him, and a foot deep crater appearing.
"Oops....."
The Harmonixer stood up straight, and the blue glow was back. He was ecstatic. The happiest he'd ever been. A real date with Katie, instead of keeping things quiet.
"S-sorry...I still have a little trouble controlling this....I diddn't know it was affected by positive emotions, as well...but I agree. A date tonight would be...perfect."
He smiled, and walked beside her. He wasn't very experienced in the ways of dating, but he was pretty sure he could pull it off. The blue glow remained, but he diddn't care. It wasn't painful, like the red glow.
"Unfortunately, I don't know the city very well. Where and when do you want to meet?"

They would start walking. Katie wrapped her arm around one of his and pulled him close. When he asked about where they would meet and when, Katie smiled.
"Well its usualy customary for the guy to pick up the girl at her place, but if you want to meet up some where that is fine too. There is a nice resturaunt we could go to. After that we could go to the park for a walk or something."
Katie thought about when. She had a few chores at home, pick up a few things, set up Bandit with his dinner, unpack... the list continued in her mind. She pushed most of it into the 'deal with later' pile.
"I am thinking we can meet around 7 tonight. It will give us plenty of time to do anything."
Katie could see the blue glow now but she didn't seem bothered by it. It wasn't like it was causing them any trouble. The wind blew past them and Katie pushed her hair from her face again. Katie would turn her head away from him a moment and blow the wind away from them. Sure enough it changed its corse. No more windy problems.
