Rise or Fall
Preface
Preface
We were told to stand or die, there were no other options. The time for running had come and past, now all that was left was the time to rise. It’s not like we had a problem with those people firing at us. They just hadn't opened their eyes yet, that’s all. Sooner or later they would see things the way we did. This country was dying, and if we did nothing we would die with it. We tried to endure, but even the greatest endurance has its limits. The corruption was everywhere. It was in the media, in the text books, and even reaching to the highest levels of the government. This country was living a lie, and we were the ones who would spread the light that brought out the truth. The rest of the world called us radicals, and some even went to call us terrorists. Well, I guess they were both true from their prospective; we wanted change, and we knew we had to get it at all costs. Those who can see though, I mean those who have really opened their eyes, they call us neither radical nor terrorist. To them, we are simply patriots.
Chapter 1: Let there be Light
The elevator dinged, and after a moment came to a stop. A young man quickly adjusted his FedEx hat and continued to push his load onto the landing. The 50th floor observation deck wasn’t the place you would normally see a delivery man, but this wasn’t your normal delivery. The delivery in these boxes were addressed to each and every citizen of the country; every self-proclaimed patriot. He walked over to the window and slowly undid the bindings of the boxes, as to not draw unnecessary attention. He took a quick glance at his reflection as he finished up. One guard to the left, and one behind the desk; they wouldn’t make it in time. Slowly, he picked up the dolly and swung it at the window and within an instant a million crystal dancers littered the sky. For a moment there was silence, and after an eternity a woman screamed. Knowing he only had a few seconds left the man dropped the dolly and kicked the boxes out of the window, and a tempest of paper descended upon the streets. The man knew what he was doing, and had accepted it long ago. The two security guards made a rush for the man, but he was too smart for them. One of the guards made a dash towards him and the open window. Quickly stepping out of the way, the man watched as the guard tripped over the dolly and fell, protruding his neck with a 6 inch piece of glass still in the window frame. The other guard bolted towards the man, but was met in the head with the dolly.
It was time for the beginning. As people ran for the exits the man pulled out a megaphone from his last box, and dumped the rest of its contents past the limp body in the window as he began to speak. “My brothers and sisters, today we unite. No longer are we to be bound by the chains of this false light called ‘society’. Do not indulge yourself in this proxy of security. You are being deceived; wool darker that ebony is covering your eves. Cast it aside, view the light! A new beginning is now upon us. Take the reigns of the future and see the light; become the light!” The man took a deep breath and jumped out the window, “Patriots! Now is the time for a new future. Become the light in the darkness of this ‘society'!
Drawn to the windows by a sea of falling paper, crowds of people crowded at the windows of office buildings. Within a flash a young man dressed and brown fell past them. Those who moved closer could see that as he fell he was removing his shirt. There seemed to be something red underneath it, but his fall was too fast for anyone to see what it was. After a moment the man’s decent ended, his body lying lifeless atop of a taxi. Chaos had landed in the streets along with his body. Those who were on the ground, and still had some sense to them, could see that there was writing carved into his chest. It was simple, yet profound. They were this man’s final words for the world; words that would later be found in every history book.
Let there be light.

“…and now on to other news,” said the anchor in his perfectly manufactured voice. A drop of sweat rolled down the reporter’s brow. He thought he had prepped himself for this moment earlier, but in the end it seemed that nothing could quite prepare someone for something like this. The anchor quickly glanced at the clock off of the set. 12:13, by now it should have already begun. As if it had been on queue the message he had been waiting for passed over the screen. Breaking News.
“I am sorry to interrupt your current broadcast. As of 12:00am, Eastern Standard Time, chaos erupted in down-town Manhattan. According to witnesses paper and bodies are raining down all across the city. Reporter Stacy Guillen is live on the scene with more details,” said the anchor. He watched as the video feed switched to the field camera, and the room’s prefect composure receded for a moment. He watched as people scrambled around to each other, trying to get a handle on the situation. None of them could see; each and every one of them, blinded by their illusion of power. To them power was in how many digits were in you pay check, not the sincerity of your words. If they knew what real power was then they would realize how powerless their checkbooks really were. The anchor had rehearsed his next part many times before, but this time it would be for real. The anchor saw the 10 seconds light turn red and quickly fixed his hair before the camera turned back on. “Thank you Stacy. At this time we…”
Suddenly the studio door burst open and five men entered the room followed by the sound of gunfire. One of the men removed his mask and walked into the center of the room carrying a TAR-21 assault rifle, and began to speak. “All who are my fellow patriots, show the sign of penance now.” The anchor raised his arm and rolled down his sleeve, revealing the tattooed words ‘let there be light’. After a second of observation the unmasked man raised his right arm, and the rest opened fire.
After a moment the fire stopped, and the blood of the co-anchor and producer covered the wall. The unmasked man signaled to the rest of the group, and they went of to their various positions, two coming with him. The unmasked man went over to the co-anchor chair and pushed the lifeless body out of the way as he sat down. The two other men stood behind him as the anchor began to speak, “And now it is time for an exclusive, live address from the leader of Ortus, Dominick Seabach.”
“Thank you, comrade,” said Dominick as he got into a comfortable position.”What I am about to tell you all may shock you, and you may even want to turn off your television, but I urge you not to. As of right now most of you are ignorant, although you do not want to admit it, and for some it would be insane for most to call them so. You are all being lied to, but do you seek out the truth? No, you let yourself be ignorant by shoving curiosity into the furthest corner of your mind and ignoring it. The people of this country must know all of its truths. It is because of this that Ortus has begun the spread of the truth across the country only moments ago. It is the goal of Ortus to spread the real truth of the world.” Dominick motioned to one of the men off camera. After a few seconds the man came on camera, holding the producer’s body, “This man here is responsible for the censorship of the news at ABC. His crimes are of corruption, bribery, and 1st degree murder of the truth. For this he was sentenced to death. His death is not in vane, for with his death there is the birth of thousands of new, functional minds, including his own. Today is the day of rebirth, people of the world. No longer will those who hide the truth go unpunished. Today I extend my hand to you, people of the world. If you are truly patriots and not just interested in self gain then seek the light of truth, find the truth; become the truth!”
Dominick stood up and walked in front of the desk and spoke again. “People of the world, is now time act. Will we rise or fall?” Dominick rolled up his right sleeve and showed that tattoo on his arm, “Let there be light!”
