There he was once again, seated before the aging piano, made of smooth mahogany, though with dust clutching at its surface. He didn't bother putting his gloves on when he pushed the cover back, and gently he placed his long fingers upon the smooth white keys. He closed his eyes, letting the memories of music fill him, and slowly they came to life through his fingers.
Music told stories about the people who composed them- and maybe even about the one who played them. In fact, he could feel the memories race around his mind, and if somebody were there to witness this, maybe they'd understand. Maybe they'd realize how hard it was to be--
The title of the piece he was playing surfaced in his thoughts as he ventured to the middle of the song, before he could continue the previous line of thought. When was the last time had he listened to this? It has been so long since he had listen to classical music- well, to all genres in fact. he felt so hollow till now, with the notes repeating dimly in his mind, and everything seemed to fade away...just until the song ends.
Just until the story ends.
But he didn't want to stop; it was too good, and he longed to be in peace for a little while longer, so he immediately switched to a shorter, sweeter, and nameless piece that he had picked in the depths of his mind. Somehow it brought tears to his eyes, but for now, he would refrain from hiding. After all, there was no one there, and he needed to rest. He was so tired. So sick of everything else.
But alas, the song ended too soon. When it was gone, he was left with nothing, surprisingly unprepared of the hollow feeling to come back. He was left defenseless. Broken. Bare.

What kind of face she was wearing, you might ask? It's a little too obvious. After her experience of being rejected by someone, she nearly cried all day. She was smiling, but it wasn't proportional to her true feeling. She was simply heartbroken, but at least that boy was being honest. At the rear of her eyes, she was still crying.
A music was being played which made her hoist her mind back to her memories that was from her past. So did the second song, both of them were unique. Afterwards, not a single sound sufficed. Somehow, she wanted to identify who was bringing those songs to existence in here. No doubt that it was from the Auditorium, so she went there.
While walking inside, she was thinking that the entirety of both songs satisfied her. She noticed not that a person was actually here, but soon realized that when she was almost close to a piano. Drake. He was there, sitting before the mentioned piano. He must have been the one playing those songs.
Without a warning, she applauded heartily. Who would denigrate his talent? Well, she calls it a talent.
"Nice, one could comment."

"Nice, one could comment."
He turned swiftly once the clapping had begun, the foreign sounds radiating and echoing in the dark room. Dust particles flew as his hands grazed the wooden surface of the instrument- and there their eyes met.
She was clapping. At him. At his ability to play- at his talent. And though he felt quite flattered and surprised at such a reaction, there was still the incurable shock of being overheard- and being seen this way.
But somehow, for the while, he couldn't give a damn.
The expression on her face, no matter how well masked, reflected his own tired and despaired emotion. Her eyes were dull, not as vibrant as the pair of orbs he recalled staring into not long ago, and it saddened him to think that someone as bright and luminescent as her had been let down. Maybe that differentiated her from him- she was a shining beacon when happy, a somewhat normal and cheery student, whereas he...he had no name. He couldn't describe himself.
"Thou look...sad." He said quietly as her clapping stopped. "What is bothering thee?"
There wasn't boredom, not even sarcasm, that lined his words. There was sincerity. He realized dully how human he was when he was stripped of the stable foundations of his pride. How much he could care for someone who deserved another's. Perhaps he wasn't fully like his father after all.
He was still human.
He still had a heart.
"Luna..." he breathed softly, looking away. He couldn't take seeing another's depressed eyes while his were the same. It was too much for his weakened state. "D-Don't tell anyone, okay?"

"Oh no. Everything is settled.."
Luna protested as she tried to sound as enlivening as a clown. Somehow, she can't even do it and was even too saddened to do it. Well, a smile was still enlightening her face; even better than tears that can't resist to fall down--which can obviously belittle and agitate her face.
'D-Don't tell anyone, okay?'
"I won't. I'll keep it as a secret."
She promised as she was preparing to listen to him. While inching a little bit closer to him, she didn't converge on her surroundings but only him. She felt a little bit of pain throughout her wounded legs. That's the result of her being so blundered these days.

"Oh no. Everything is settled.."
He smiled at that, not the usual sneer or happiness, but instead a smile of pain. Pain and...antagonistic likeness. Insanity, perhaps?
"That's a lie, and we both know that." he said quietly, his eyes dim, his lips aching at this force of upturn. "So drop the act, because we're on the same sinking boat, Luna."
He turned until his whole body was facing her, leaning back on the piano. He didn't care anymore if the dust caught in his sleeves- that was the least of his problems.
"Maybe I wouldn't be like this for long. I'm changing now," he whispered, barely audible for her to hear. "I've learned so much...and yet the past won't go away." was it tears? The damn wetness, it was starting to come up again. "What should I do?" he asked no one in particular. "Should I give in? Or should I let go?"
He lowered his face and gave out a deep sigh, his hazel bangs brushing his face, shadowing his already dim eyes. In that pose, he caught sight of her lower part- not that he was a pervert, but her uncanny position- posture, maybe- alarmed him.
"Arth thou hurt?" He whispered, looking up to meet her eyes.

'That's a lie, and we both know that. So drop the act, because we're on the same sinking boat, Luna.'
The same sinking boat? At this, she halted herself from struggling to be brisk and bouncy at the moment. She found herself getting more languid than before. She sighed with an utter dismay, it's as if her life was trying to assault her. Let's drop this matter for a while now.
'Maybe I wouldn't be like this for long. I'm changing now. I've learned so much...and yet the past won't go away. What should I do? Should I give in? Or should I let go?'
"It's your choice. There is a possibility that you will pass on to the wrong decision if I will answer that."
The stings that were sitting upon her legs would surely reinforce the message Luna was trying to get across. All the while, she continued to ponder how long her tears could last so stalwartly against Drake's barrages of reminders. Yes, he reminded her of something. As he was looking at her bottom region, she looked down as well.
'Arth thou hurt?'
"Yes, but these wounds doesn't concern my problems."

"It's your choice. There is a possibility that you will pass on to the wrong decision if I will answer that."
Whatever path he chose, there was no turning back, and there was definitely no way to redeem him. Everything that had happened- from his childhood and present years- they were mistakes. All it did was make him look like a monster; a monster created to fit the image of his father.
He couldn't take the task upon himself. It was either he was giving up on Lucius, the person who had made the dark side of inheritance left in him, or he was too tired.
He wanted to sleep all of a sudden.
But his companion's welfare, it mattered right now. More important than his own emotional bruises. So for now he would let it all go and forget. Until the time comes once again when he would lose himself on the piano.
"Yes, but these wounds doesn't concern my problems."
"Luna..." he said in response, glaring into her eyes. "Thou know very well that I would not take that as an answer. Let me see them." he added huskily.
If only he didn't have the restrictions! He knew he could heal her with his alice. Though it did not seem probable, he was able to test it a few weeks back when he had 'healed' a fellow student by drinking the pained life energy and replacing it with his own. The after effects were disastrous- he was out cold all day- and he had even vowed never to use that ability on people he didn't give a damn about. But Luna...this was different. Although slightly.
But he still had his coat, and he could carry her to the infirmary if needed. Well, he could still get by with or without his alice, after all.

It is true, it doesn't concern her. Her tears held back by only a thread’s width as she heard his voice again; hearing him requesting for her to let him see the injuries. Can't he just stay silent? It's just that she was being forced to recall about her unidentified father; she didn't see his face.
Meanwhile, she was taciturn at the moment and just obeyed on what Drake said. Her wounds were visible enough for him to see, so she doesn't have to lift her skirt up a little.
"Drake.. I-I.."
She stammered as she gulped in the process. She realized that she had taken some desperate measures from crying. Although, she was not getting inadvertent at this current and unnecessary situation. She still doesn't want to buck her tears, not at a moment like this.
"What's your Alice?"

He ignored her protests as he examined her injuries; a dark bruise deforming her pale-skinned knee, and the small cut that wasn't bleeding anymore. He frowned at that. "Where did thou get this?" he asked impatiently. "It looks disinfected though. Well, if it's a little stingy, I can't do anything about the pain." He smiled sadly. "This restriction tuned up to a hundred percent...it's torture."
He was so busy with worry that he thought he had snapped at her. He looked up and caught sight of her face; she was restraining the urge to cry. "That would only make it hard for thee," he whispered. "You can cry. I won't tell anyone, and I certainly don't mind."
Maybe it's because she was a girl, and crying was normal to them. But someone like himself...he didn't have the strength to cry.
"What's your Alice?" she asked, and he understood why she wanted to know. If he were in her shoes, he would have asked the same thing. It bothered him though; what if telling her what he could do frighten her away? Just like with so many other people...
"My Alice? It would come as a little shock to thee...I possess the ability to regain strength when I drain another's life force. I am one of the few gifted with the Vampire Alice." he looked down, smiling sadly. "I know a few tricks that can restore and nullify pain. Alas, the Alice ban is keeping me from using them..."
He bit his lip, then let go, heaving a tired sigh.
"...I can't help thee. But that does not mean I can try."

'Where did thou get this?'
"I.. stumbled a lot of times because of my clumsiness."
She admitted patiently, still having a slight hostility with her tears. They shouldn't come out, not with a boy here. Her tears sure has a lot of potential to destroy one's face and she couldn't even hide them any longer.
She continued to hide them as she felt his eyes on her. His staring made her self-conscious. What, did she have tears in her face now? She guessed he was just cautious, or that he was concerned about her. Of course, concealing was, most likely, her worst skill, and therefore, she probably can't hold back the tears this long.
Though, Drake permitted for her to cry. Luna could only give a small 'I shouldn't', scanning over him. Her mind was getting vague. When he explained all about his Alice, she instantly knew that it was something related to some other Vampire Alices.
'... I can't help thee. But that does not mean I can try.'
"It's fine. I don't need to be helped."
Without another moment, a tear fell down.

"It's fine. I don't need to be helped."
He did not like to hear that, especially now. He wanted to help. Why can't anyone see that?
But then...
Did he really deserve her trust?
There was one way to find out.
"Tell me. What happened?" He asked sternly.

'Tell me. What happened?'
Why does he want to know so badly? After all, it doesn't concern him much, correct? She doesn't even know Drake that much. Still, the question was directed sternly at her, as if it is badly needed to be answered. No matter how hard she tries to convince him that everything is pretty smooth, he still doubts.
"It's about.... a boy whom I like so.."
Her voice trailed off; she can't do it. She was with Ryuu, Shaira, Shido and herself in Central Town wherein you could smell the sweet aromas of nearby restaurants and stores. They were enjoying their time together--or at least, that's what she thinks. But, by the time when she expressed her feelings for Ryuu, he somehow rejected them and she just couldn't forget the memories yesterday.
For an impact of the rejection, rain pours down.
But what made it so different from before the rain was that everything seemed to be gray and gloomy. You couldn't really tell anything, and might have thought that it was night if you didn't know better. Though the blond girl had no problem with the rain, she just hated the dark feeling that it gave off. It almost seemed like no one could really find a happy place to be, even if they went inside, they knew that they were trapped until the rain died off.
The gray skies along with the dark clouds gave a perfect description of what Luna just felt that day.
"I can't..."
She hesitated as more of her tears existed.

"It's about.... a boy whom I like so.."
Love problems. How could he have guessed? Honestly, he couldn't give a damn- or he was scared. After what had happened, he promised never to be close to anyone ever again...because it hurt.
And this girl...well, she wasn't exactly close but...he didn't want to...
She was a friend. Drake was mature enough to understand that already. Even if they had only met. He once believed that people like him would never be able to understand ordinary students like her. She proved him wrong though and as much as he didn't like being proved wrong, he was thankful she did.
"A boy? Is it someone I know?" he inquired further.
There was a brief pause. And then...
"I can't..."
Figures.
It didn't really bug him if she did not open up. In fact, he was secretly hoping it to be that way. He did not have the time- nor the will- to be brought down by women's tears.
And yet...
He swiftly turned back to the piano and pressed a single key, creating a dull tone to echo around the music room.
"Should I play for you?" he asked her after a while.

'A boy? Is it someone I know?'
Came another inquiry; she only shrugged. Betwixt the raw and painful feeling hadn't even dulled on one shard. She could feel some sogginess upon her blazed cheeks. She tried to retain her placidity as possible. Well, she was contented that she was letting out her little bit of feelings to him. She didn’t know what had spurred that inside of her, but it's as if she was feeling better in having to admit those feelings.
'Should I play for you?'
"You--ok,"
She said as she was about to say something but disregarded it instantly; having to bridge the first word because she’d already started saying it before she could stop. Luna was still feeling so anxious about all this. Though, she tried to control her silent weeping from converting them into loud, full-fledged sobs. Somehow, her red, puffy eyes were quelling and were resolving to return to their normal colors.
Maybe when Drake plays, her pain will subside ephemerally.

"You--ok,"
He didn't hear her, for his fingers were once again dancing lightly upon the marble keys, bringing the aged piano to life. After a few sweet notes he closed his eyes, having his hands do everything, the tune whispering sweet notings in his mind. He gently drew breath, turned his body to the side to reach the higher keys, and once again the music flowed beautifully in the small room.
He never thought much of the pieces he played. Their names and titles were nothing compared to the music they created, and Drake was satisfied in knowing just that. It was amazing how he could just pick up pieces of the piece in his mind and lay it out like he had a copy of the composition before him. Perhaps he got this from his mother; Evangel had always been a talented pianist.
He stopped at the end of the song, slightly heaving. He was genuinely surprised at the music he had decided to play- Moonlight Sonata, the title revolved in his mind. Was that right?
He turned his attention to his blond companion. "So...how did I do?" he asks a little happily, though he could not fathom the reason why he was feeling that way.

Ah, Moonlight Sonata.
The music is one of Beethoven's compositions and it has been so long since she heard her preferred song. As she listened carefully to each and every melody of it, she doesn't want to waste this moment. It seemingly soothed her starked emotions and feelings--slowly.
Yes, slowly, it was caressing her heart gently. It would be an outright lie to deny that the music didn't do a similar thing to Drake, wrong? She doesn't really know. As it finally stopped, she blinked several times before she was face to face with him.
'So...how did I do?'
"I love it. It has been a long time since I heard that composition."

"I love it. It has been a long time since I heard that composition."
True. Though not really a difficult piece, only a few preferred to play the said composition.
"Well, thanks. I don't know what's go into me. I've never felt so insecure before." He paused. "How arth thou feeling now? I hope thou aren't bothered anymore."
Was he making sense? Probably not. His fingers showed the same emotion; nervously it caressed the white marble keys slowly, and his right leg had taken solace with crossing itself over his other leg. Somehow, he felt like he was some unwanted intruder trying to get inside Luna's thoughts.
And ironically, it seemed to him that he was only bothering her more with his intrusion.
He gave out a sigh.
"Playing always makes me feel better. It's something my uncle had taught me when he was still alive, that music is one of those remedies to cheer up a soul. What do thou think about that?"
It was a meager attempt at starting a conversation, but he had to make do with it.

'Well, thanks. I don't know what's go into me. I've never felt so insecure before. How arth thou feeling now? I hope thou aren't bothered anymore.'
"Yes. I'm all providential now."
Luna said -- but it was faux again; she lied to be more precise. Although, she feels so comical to lie all the time. Though, she has to do it, so people won't be concerned about her a little while longer.
It's lavishly extravagant to tell the whole truth -- according to her. She doesn't want him to think about her too much anymore. Maybe just a conversation would be nice.
'Playing always makes me feel better. It's something my uncle had taught me when he was still alive, that music is one of those remedies to cheer up a soul. What do thou think about that?'
"It's true. Though, I only sing, dance or draw just for me to be cheered up again -- a little."
She explained honestly, not emphasizing the words "a little". She is inherited with wonderful talents, but she really doesn't show them. When he also just played the piano, her heart was being soothed a little -- just a little.
She felt bad for telling these things to him, but it was the only way to make the conversation flow continuously.

"Yes. I'm all providential now."
Lie.
One didn't have to be a genius to see that. The truth was evident on her face; she was still sad, but not as much. Perhaps his playing soothed her. That made him smile.
He couldn't blame her for lying to him- he was but a stranger, correct? They weren't close. He was just somebody who's persistent in picking at her wounds, daring her to expose it to him. So he could help. Hadn't he done enough damage already?
And that face...that tear-stained look in another's eyes...he didn't want to see them, ever. Not even on Luna. She didn't deserve much pain, much pain as he had done unto somebody else.
Was she suffering the same?
Was she dealing with the same feelings of loss and rejection?
How he wished he could help her.
But he couldn't even help the other.
"It's true. Though, I only sing, dance or draw just for me to be cheered up again -- a little."
"Thou sing?" He asked, breaking his train of thought. "Will thou sing with my playing, then?"
He flexed his fingers. He shouldn't think about anything for the moment. What mattered was here, now.
"What do thou want me to play? I know a few modern songs...it wouldn't hurt to sing along." He told her, leaning back a bit.

"What songs do you like? You may mention one and I'll sing it -- or should I be the only one to choose?"
Yeah, right. He will mention one and she'll sing it. Oh, that is, if she knows that particular song. Somehow, he interfered her progress of impeded and absurd thoughts.
What was she thinking about again? Great, now she was in the middle of disorientation in her head. But was that really vital? The sturdy walls was even full of dust that she has to hold her nose just so she couldn't sneeze.
She was pinching her nose and then, let go again. Finally, her nose's desire to sneeze subsided. That usually works for her. She was like a barren beet and she wants to share her beautiful voice to someone -- at least for a while. Maybe that will be a little better than singing all by herself.
There was such an ado in her life.
