Yuuko was glad to hear that Endrin had a better idea than just sitting there awkwardly. The playground, yes, that sounded like a good idea. That way nothing could go wrong there, and if it did then she was just bad luck somehow. So, with a more upbeat tone to her voice, she took his hand and yet again began to drag him with her.
"That's a good idea, Endrin. I mean, geeze, I haven't been at a playground in ages. My parents never let me go, they always said I had too much work to do." It was strange to hear her mention her parents without much disdain in her voice. After all, she felt she had ever reason to hate them. Still, they were her family and there were times where she just couldn't let go of that fact and remembered them without speaking like she wanted to kill someone.

Endirn gladly took her hand and ran along with her his breathing disorder didn't bother him much when running or things like that just with all the energy requiered to fly. He loved the swings personally it was somthing from his youth as that was where he always used to play. It didn't matter what kind of swing it was be it normal or a tire swing. He just loved it and it always cheered him up.
"What do you want to do there I am partial to the swings myself but I will gladly do what you want. After all you are the lady."
He was young yes but his parents always taught him that ladies went first and to try and make them happy. To open doors and all that good stuff. They strongly believed in being a gentlemen.

Yuuko laughed at Endrin's comment about being the "lady". She was in no way lady-like, and the last time she had ever chosen something before a boy just because she was a girl had to be...never. Usually it was just the "I'm so better than you so move" sort of deal. Yup, that was her kind of attitude, there was nobody that was better than her.
"Sure, why not? Though I must warn you, I'm not lady-like in any way or any form. Why don't we swing? I always loved it whenever I was allowed to." With a flash of a smile she got onto the swingset and began to swing, methodically pushing her legs out and pulling them back in. She remembered the fear she had when she first had swung and chuckled, finding it funny now.
"When I was about...oh, four or so, I was always afraid that I would go too high. Like, I would just fly into the sky and get lost or something. My brother thought it was funny, so he always pushed me off and said he was trying to protect me. In later years I kicked him for doing that."

Endrin took the swing next to her and started to swing himself matching her speed and height. They went up and down together making it easy to talk to her withought it getting lost. Endrin felt so alive with the rush of the air hitting his face and it was nice that he didn't need to worry about getting all tired and becomeing unable to breath. The swings were always his favorite thing cause he always wanted to fly. How ironic that he can in fact fly and hates his power. If there was a god he had a sense of humor indeed.
"Well I think you are more lady like then you give yourself credit for. The definition of a lady and Gentleman is someone who always tried to make everyone around them comfortable. Well with me you have done nothing but put me at ease and make me feel comfortable. Therefore you are a lady."

Yuuko smiled at Endrin's comment, wondering whether she really went along with the definition. In her mind being a lady meant being very proper and following all the rules. Never once had she allowed herself to do either of those things. She was never proper and almost never followed the rules. Therefore, Endrin's definition was way better than the one she had been brought up with.
"Well thank you, Endrin. And you're quite the gentleman if you want to go along with that definition. It's really quite an interesting one. Where did you get it from?" It seemed that she was okay with light conversation once more. This did her some good to get her mind off of the disaster that had just happened with his Alice.
As she went up, Yuuko's trademark sunglasses fell in front of her eyes. Anything that was lit up was immediately dulled and she almost felt as if she were in the twilight zone. Though the girl didn't bother to put her sunglasses back atop her head, it was fun to have it like that. And it wasn't like she was going anywhere.

Endrin didn't have to think about it at all it was an easy answer to an easy question. It was what his parents had always taught him. That a true lady and gentleman were people that were more concerned with other people's comfort over their own. One didn't have to be rich and dress up to be a lady or a gentleman it was a personality thing.
"Well thats what my parents always taught me. You don't need to dress up and be rich to be a lady or a gentleman. Just be a good person basically."
Endrin continued to swing in unison with Yuuko wondering what she would make of his explanation. It wasn't a very good one he thought but it was the truth and that was all that he could say.

Yuuko was, in fact, jealous when she heard Endrin's explination of where he had heard the definition. Her own parents wouldn't have said anything like that, they weren't those kinds of people. You were either proper and were a lady or had no manners and were a complete tomboyish disappointment. Though she really didn't display many manners, her parents were happy with her because of her grades and because she was the youngest child. Though, of course, they only looked at the disappointments now.
"You're lucky, I think. I mean, your parents must be really good people. Mine...aren't really so great. To be honest, I think they just bottled up all their disappointments with me so that they could lash out at me once they found out about my Alice. They were always upset that I wasn't proper, that I got into fights with boys and then had them following me home after school. My father especially hated that because he thought I was in some kind of relationship. Whatever, he was paranoid," she explained, finding herself feeling a bit blue at the thought of it. No longer did she have her cheery disposition, but a very glum one speaking of her parents.
"Sorry, I must be a real bore continuing to tell stories of my family that I hate. I just...really don't have any others, you know? I have to make new ones first before I can tell them."

Endrin shook his head he didn't find Yuuko boring at all. He loved to hear from people about themselves and their families. He had always been curious about people and found even the small details about their lives interesting. Not to mention it was nice his parents were not the only ones to dislike their kids having an Alice.
"Well my parents are not all that good. My mom always nags and my dad drinks. Niether are really happy about the Alice though my dad is a lot more aggressive about it. He even said he would not allow freaks like me in his house. So they don't really practice what they teach."

Yuuko could understand where Endrin was coming from completely. How could she not, when her own parents had basically done the same thing to her? People without Alices just didn't understand, nor did she think they wanted to. People were selfish animals, she had to keep reminding herself of that fact. Selfish animals indeed.
"One day, Endrin, we'll show them," she said confidently as she flung back her hair with a smile, "We'll show them that we're not freaks. After all, you don't think I'm a freak and I certainly don't think you are. We'll fit in...it'll just take time. One day, things are going to be fine."
"One day..." Yuuko thought sullenly as she continued to swing. All she wanted was for her parents to come on their knees to her and apologize, to beg for her forgiveness for what they had done. For Max, always so high and mighty, to confess that he should have helped her since she was his little sister. But that would come in due time, when she was older, when she was great.

It was nice to know that someone in the school understood where he was coming from. Though he was still a little unsure if she really new what he was feeling or was just guessing. Either way though it did make him feel a bit better to hear that. HE just felt so worthless that he was discarded like nothing. That they so casually tossed him to the side and put him out of the way. Part of him thought that he should be mad but he was just sad instead. It was probably because he had low self esteem because of being picked on so much at normal school by normal kids. It was easy for people to tell him what a gift he had like the counslers did and his teachers at school. But it was somthing else to have to live with the so called gift.
"No I don't think you are a freak but what does my opinion matter if I am a freak. I mean the whole world sees us as freaks.... maybe they are right."
After his words Endrin drifted back in to his own world of thoughts though he was still listning to Yuuko and would hear every word she said clearly. He just couldn't help but muse what his life would be like if he was normal.

"Screw the rest of the world, what do they know?" Yuuko shot back, wondering why he was always so down in the dumps all the time! After all, he could be fighting to make himself into the greatest of the skies, even better than the birds, and all he did was sit there mulling over the fact that the world saw them as freaks! The waste disappointed her, for she knew that he could really make himself of use with that Alice of his if he would just stop being so darn negative and try!
"They don't live every day with the thought that this Alice isn't going away. They just look at us and throw us in an isolated place so they don't have to deal with us. But we're human, Endrin. We're like the rest of the world! If they want to isolate us, they can do that for only so long. Because one day, I'm going to be a star, and they'll realize that having a talent doesn't mean you're a freak." Her words were sharp and almost defiant, as if she was being attacked or something. It was basically her rule that she would never let herself become negative at the school. It was where she would become great, how could she ruin those chances?
"I don't know what it is that keeps you from being positive for like five seconds, Endrin. You're a good guy, but it's so frustrating. We're not freaks, we're people just like everybody else. Oh...dang it!" Yuuko was riled up now and jumped off her swing landing in the sand around the swings that made for a soft landing. She wipped some of it off and immediately jerked Endrin's swing to a halt.
"I want you to tell me something, Endrin," the redhead said seriously, her eyes boring deep into his, "Do you think I'm a pretty girl? Do you think I'm just as pretty as any normal girl out there? Because if you do think that, then answer me this: what makes those girls so different from me? That I can change my visual appearence and they can't? Why does that matter? Does it make them any better just because they don't have my talent--my gift?"

Endrin's swing was jerked to a halt and he almost fell back out of his swing but was saved by the fact that he was holding on tight to the chains that held the swing up. He had no clue what her problem was. HE was just being realistic. He read about people like him. That they killed people like him. He read about all of the riots that had happened that still happen. About places similer to this place being burned down and the people in side being hung. It was a scary thought and somtimes he had nightmares about the noose being around his neck.
He was a little taken aback by her question on whether or not she was cute. He looked at her and for once didn't manage to blush. He looked at all of her up and down and then nodded. She was indeed a very pretty girl. He was a little surprised that he wasn't blushing now that he was really looking at her.
"yeah.... you are very pretty Yukko... More pretty then a lot of normal girls. But you don't understand even if we don't see us as freaks others do. Have you read about the riots? I have... did you know they still happen today. That places like this get torn down and everyone in them killed. That they get kidnapped from their homes nd are found weeks later killed in some awful way. This 'gift' will probably get me killed by my own body or by someone else. What is there to like about that? You saw me today.... that was a light attack. I have almost died before. I have blacked out sometimes for hours at a time. This Slice has caused menothing but pain. In fact the only good things it has done is let me meet you and Autumn."

Yuuko backed away from the swing as she took her sunglasses off of her face and then placed both hands on her hips. She understood why he thought that it was a bad thing, but what she didn't understand was why he didn't want to change it. He had the power to, he had the resources, but all he did was sit around and whine about the fact that nothing was working for him. It only didn't work because he wasn't letting it work!
"I'll tell you a little secret Endrin," she said, her voice staying rather calm now, "We're the only people who can change what goes on out there. What we do when we leave this school determines whether those riots go on or not. We have to show the world that we can be normal, that we're not freaks. Just like you have to work on your Alice. Because you're the only one who can stop it from hurting you. Fear will get you nowhere." Her arms crossed over her chest now, the fidgeting calming her nerves slightly. At least it helped get some aggression out of her system.
"Even if the world sees us as freaks, we have to make them see it through our eyes. And it's this generation that's going to do that, whether you agree with me or not. You just have to step out of that little dark corner of fear and start doing something." Yuuko walked up to him now, leaning against the swing, which basically meant she was leaning against his body. The swing would topple over without his weight anchoring it.
"You know, I'm glad I got you out. Now I see just what Autumn and I have to do," the young redhead stopped leaning and knelt down in front of him so that she was no longer looking down at him. Though she was young, she understood her goals and she understood what she wanted to do. Soon, she would turn thirteen and after that fourteen until finally she was an adult, she needed to have ideas about her Alice, thoughts and opinions that could not be changed.
"I swear to God, Endrin, that by the time I graduate from this school, you're going to see the world in a new light. Whether it's because of me, Autumn, or somebody completely different, you will. I refuse to let such a brilliant talent and mind be drowned in the sea of sorrow."
Yuuko quickly leaned in toward Endrin and pecked his cheek before standing abruptly and turning her back to him. A sigh escaped her as she took the glasses that were in her hand and shoved them into her back pocket. Hair that was pushed back fell into place, and a whole sea of red hair was swaying from side to side as the wind pushed it.
"There's your prime example of not being afraid. Stop worrying about the what-ifs and just live! embrace what you've got! It's not going to kill you!" the girl called as she waved to him, though by now her figure was becoming lost in the darkness and it was really only her voice that showed where she was.
"Thanks for the good time! I'll see you in class tomorrow! Good night!" Her voice was fading, and eventually it was gone. If Endrin wanted to say anything to her, he was going to have to run and catch up with her, because it was obvious she wasn't turning back. Yuuko was pretty dead set on going back to the dorms, for this was really only seeming to frustrate the both of them.
