I opened the two green doors that appeared at the end of the long staircase, arriving at my destination. The top of the Elementary building was wide-spaced and clear; above me, the skies were a wondrous blue, the soft clouds drifting lazily under the sun. The entrance to the stairway back down provided a small shadow behind it, and slowly I walked to the back of the wall and sat, adjusting my skirts and my long hair in a lady-like manner.

My head nodded, drowsy because of my lack of sleep last night. I was in no better shape during the first and second period, so I made my way here to catch some sleep. The soft breeze, the cool air, and the just-right sunshine was liberating enough that I felt just fine here, even without the familiar walls of my house.

The restrictor that embraced my wrist, due to the Alice ban, dangled softly as I fingered the palettes of my skirt. I found it short, but not as short as I was uncomfortable with. In fact, it was alright. My fingers lowered to the ground beside me, finding a single thick lock of my golden hair snaking about. I touched it, felt the familiar silkiness, and succumbed to sleep.

It was brief, non-descript. When I woke up a while later, I could not find any traces of a dream. Perhaps it wasn't really sleep. Just a shutting of eyes and a momentary pause. I stretched out my arms, arching my back, yawning out loud. I wonder if my teacher had already realized my absence? I chuckled softly as my hands found the floor once more.

"Sleepy in the day time," I whisper softly, somewhat to myself.

"Join the club..." My eyes widened at the sound, that had gradually come out from nowhere. A short shuffling of feet as somebody got up. "Hi. My name's Jason."

Suddenly there was a shadow other than the wall's that bent over me, so in bewilderment I turned my head to where I heard the voice. It was a boy. And he looked like somebody who was used to all the school's facilities and turn-ups; an old student. I let my eyes wander around his neat and handsome face, taking in the features to store in my mind. And his name.

"Jason? I'm Evangeline." I told him. It was normal for people to exchange information on their names upon meeting, right? I was only doing both of us a favor. Besides, I think it's only been a few minutes since the start of the third period, and I wouldn't be leaving my spot until the bell for lunch rings.

I decided it best to sit in a more lady-like manner, since this was, in fact, a guy. Having my legs sprawled out like this would seem rude and untidy. Believe me, I'm anything but. So, I withdrew my legs and tucked them in, wrapping my arms around them. Sighing, I leaned my chin on my knees. I had no plans to approach him. He could come near me if he wants, but I'm staying in where I am. Right here. Where the sun is less.

"So..." I began softly, staring at my feet. "...what brings you here?"

Just a normal start for a normal conversation, that's all. If he was going to stay here as long as I would, then it'd be best if we had an exchange of words. Yeah, that'd be nice. Who knows, this guys might prove to be fun after all.

"I know it's bad to skip class and all, but I couldn't help it. I don't have the energy to stay alert and awake throughout the day. Nocturnal, maybe, since I don't exactly sleep well at night." I chuckled, putting a palm before my lips as I did so. "Anyway, you wouldn't turn me in, would you?" I stare at him at this, almost pleadingly, in one of the cutest- or rather, what I think is- faces I could do. "Please?"

"You seem nice, so I won't tell. But you can't tell on me either."

I grinned at him. "Oh, I won't." Why would I? I'm not a party-pooper. If I could, I'd tell him otherwise. But not right now. I guess he can figure that little bit of information by himself.

"Evangeline? Can I call you something shorter than that?" I can't blame him on that part. The name I've chosen to call myself was a tad too long- but no way was I going to tell him to call me by my first name. Not Violet. I've had enough of taunts as 'Purploo' or 'Vivi'. Though I'm not sure that he would tease me as that, it's better to be safe than sorry.

"Sorry about that. You can call me Eva if you'd like." I returned his warm smile, the same one I had seen upon his face only moments ago. He is really friendly, and I liked that. He wasn't that kind of punk I met back then in the North woods. Geez, remembering would only make me shudder. This boy, Jason, he's alright.

I realized he hadn't asnwered my earlier question. Perhaps he didn't hear since I had said it silently, and he was too caught up with my name. How cute. I giggled to myself, only a bit, so it wouldn't occur to him that I was making fun of him. I wasn't. I found him funny, that's all.

"Let's do something fun." I said, winking at him. Thinking I had said the wrong words, or that he'd get the wrong idea, I corrected myself. "I mean, yeah. Something we can do to spare time."

Made a wrong move there. Although he's handsome and all, I wasn't hitting on him. I don't hit on people. I hit them. So...bad Eva. Bad bad bad.

A blush crept to my cheeks, and quickly I threw my right arm back and scratched the back of my head. "S-sorry. You know what I mean."
